It’s a Dangerous Game

In the old days, kids got grazed knees, bruised shins, broken arms and black eyes playing actual sports like cricket, football, rugby or BMX.

Supposedly with the advent of video games gone are the days of showing off your plaster cast on the playground, now your modern day couch potatoes have ailments like Stylus Cramp, Claw Fingers and Gamer’s Thumb. Most of these caused by repetitive stress disorder - caused by repeating a particular movement too often.

But serious injuries are making a comeback.

I recently saw a friend with a huge lump on his head, he claimed was a “bowling injury”.

Bowling? I thought the worst that could happen at a bowling alley would be dropping a ball onto a toe - or maybe getting a pinkie caught in the hand dryer.

“Not real bowling, ” the battered barista explained. “Wii Sports Bowling!”
It transpires that his over-excitable friend, with the aid of a couple of beers, managed to let go of the wiimote while going for a strike, and it hit him square in the head.

It’s good to see some real danger returning to our sedentary lifestyles.

Try Googling “Wii injuries” you will see the phenomenon happens all the time.
