It’s a Dangerous Game

In the old days, kids got grazed knees, bruised shins, broken arms and black eyes playing actual sports like cricket, football, rugby or BMX.

Supposedly with the advent of video games gone are the days of showing off your plaster cast on the playground, now your modern day couch potatoes have ailments like Stylus Cramp, Claw Fingers and Gamer’s Thumb. Most of these caused by repetitive stress disorder - caused by repeating a particular movement too often.

But serious injuries are making a comeback.

I recently saw a friend with a huge lump on his head, he claimed was a “bowling injury”.

Bowling? I thought the worst that could happen at a bowling alley would be dropping a ball onto a toe - or maybe getting a pinkie caught in the hand dryer.

“Not real bowling, ” the battered barista explained. “Wii Sports Bowling!”
It transpires that his over-excitable friend, with the aid of a couple of beers, managed to let go of the wiimote while going for a strike, and it hit him square in the head.

It’s good to see some real danger returning to our sedentary lifestyles.

Try Googling “Wii injuries” you will see the phenomenon happens all the time.

Wiitastic - Revamp

Well it has been long overdue, and as it turned out a fairly pain free experience, but I finally got round to installing Wordpress on my server.

It might take me a few weeks to migrate some of the old posts across, but hopefully posts to this site will start to be a bit more regular once again.

PS - Thanks to EZwpthemes for the Super Mario theme.

Nintendo Vinyl Figures

Mario, the iconic Italian tap-twiddler, and a few of his colourful cohorts have escaped their pixellated confines and entered the real world in the shape of these collectable vinyl figures.

Featuring Mario, Luigi, Toad, Yoshi and Donkey Kong. All figures are roughly 12cm tall.

007 and Star Wars top list of film tie-ins.

The classic Rare-developed GoldenEye 007 for the N64 is the greatest game ever based on a film property, according to voters who placed it at number 6 in’s Greatest Games of All Time.

Not to be confused with EA’s lacklustre GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, GoldenEye 007 is an FPS which is notable for being vastly innovative as well as having one of the greatest multiplayer modes in history.

After Bond, Star Wars is the most popular non-gaming property in games, with two titles, LEGO Star Wars: The Original Saga at 58 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic at 68.

Notably, James Bond and Star Wars are the only two examples of non-gaming entertainment properties in the entire Top 100.

The LEGO Star Wars team return this June with LEGO Indiana Jones, which gives the same hilarious platforming-adventure treatment to the first three Harrison Ford-starring classics.
