Nintendo profits boosted by Wii

"Japanese game firm Nintendo has seen its quarterly profits soar thanks to the popularity of its Wii game console.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6914955.stm
Nintendo's net profits hit 80.25bn yen ($667m; £323.9m) in the three months to June, up from 15.55bn yen in the same period a year earlier."

I would add that I assume strong DS sales are also contributing, but I think it's all good news, a strong Nintendo will I think lead to more and better games for the Wii in the long term. It is no longer a platform publishers can ignore, which the GameCube effectively became.

Mario Party 8 recall

Nintendo has recalled all UK copies of Mario Party 8 because: "Unfortunately we have discovered that a small number of games contain the wrong version of the disk due to an assembly error."

According to reports there is an offensive word in the translation of the game, the sentence in question is:
“Magikoopa magic! Turn the train spastic! Make this ticket tragic!”
Overkill? Maybe not if you need to keep your family-friendly image squeaky clean, but let's face it, it's not up there with the recent Manhunt 2 ban, is it?

De Blob

Read a preview of a game under development on IGN (http://wii.ign.com/articles/801/801815p1.html) and it looks bizarre to say the least!
De Blob started life as a student project to promote a facelift for the city of Utrecht in The Netherlands, and is being bought to the Wii by development studio Blue Tongue and publisher THQ, and is due for release Spring 2008.

You can download the original de Blob game (PC) for free: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=401276
although it is a bit weighty at 97mb!

Disappointing Finish

I’d prepared myself for another marathon stint to complete the final mission. My batteries were re-charged, literally and metaphorically, the walkers sensations (big bag, sweet chilli) were opened and with a cold beer within reach (and a couple more in the fridge), I was ready to take on the final ‘ghost’ Eledee!
The froth had barely been blown off the beer before the level was complete, and ghost was reduced to a little cute mouse sized Eledee and the closing credit sequence was scrolling up the screen to a terrible cheesy song.
Now I didn’t find many of the levels in Eledees particularly challenging, but it was well structured and well paced. It got slightly more difficult and slight more frantic as it went along. It was somewhat disappointing then to find it easy enough to finish off the final challenge within a few minutes!
With most games I enjoy playing I usually return to at some point in the future and try to unlock the extra levels or hidden features, or in this case find the Pink Eleldees, but this time I’m not to sure I will, but just in case you want to I will post a list of where to find them.

Arrrrrgh!! Low batteries!

After several evenings of solid play, I made it through to the mission 29 of Eledees to face the final big bad Eledee. Having laid waste to the amusement park and picked up enough cute electrically charged creatures to power a small country, when irony struck and the batteries in my Wiimote gave up! I think maybe it was a sign as well was past midnight and the early morning alarm was already looming large!

Anyway I quickly popped the batteries onto re-charge and I'm set for another evening of trying to see off the Eledees.
