Nintendo has announced it plans to release a game making tool called WiiWare, no, it’s not a new line of clothing for babies, it's a tool that gives budding game makers the data they need to use the console and its innovative controller. Aimed at small indie developers and I assume would be in a similar vein to Microsoft XNA Game Studio for the XBox 360.
Games created via the WiiWare service can be put on the Wii Shop channel so others can download them by spending Wii points (although apparently Nintendo will quality test them first).

Unfortunately, Nintendo says that WiiWare won't start releasing new games until early 2008.
